Cops to investigate TV stations

Eight private TV stations are reported to police for airing programs on sex and violence. The cops will proceed with legal processes. The stations are TPI, Lativi, ANTeve, TransTV, TV7, Indosiar, SCTV and RCTI. All the stations broadcast programs about sexual and violent issues such as Love and Lust, Whispering Lust, Evening Soap Opera, Dorce's Show, Phenomenon, Special Laughter Special, God and Goddess, Religious Cinema, Black and White, Divine Mystery, Womanizer, “I am Jealous 3”, Panggung Hahahihi , Temulawak, Suratan Takdir, and Golden Stage.

As repeatedly warned the stations were deemed in violation of the 2002 Broadcasting Law. There will likely be legal actions against them. If their cases go to court, each of them can face a fine of up to more than US$1 million, and the TV officials can be jailed for up to five years. Sex and violence in mass media have been in the spotlight recently following controversy over a popular U.S. wrestling show and sex video scandal that forced a senior lawmaker to resign. In November 2006 Lativi station was ordered to stop airing SmackDown following a death of child who tried to do the same wrestling trick as shown in the show.
